Scanning

Scanning into Photoshop

• Place your document on the scanning bed with the top of the image closest to you
• Open Photoshop CS3 Icon which can be found in the hard drive under applications and click it open
• Once in Photoshop go to FILE>IMPORT>"NAME OF SCANNER"
(Select the option for the name of the scanner attached to your computer)
• The scanner window will open and the scanner will take a few moments to warm up. Once the scanner is ready the job progress will show the status of your scan.
(The scanner starts in the last mode used. You have three options on the MODE drop-down menu: Full Auto Mode, Professional Mode *most options and Home Mode *limited options)
Under the mode choose options that support the project you are working on. When choosing a resolution determine whether this image will be printed, sent as an e-mail or used solely for the web. 300 + is best for printing but the larger the resolution, the larger the file and longer it takes to scan. 72 is best for web or e-mail. Slides or negative film should be scanned in at high resolutions for good quality images and will take a long time to scan in. Information on that will follow later in the course.
• Under the mode click PREVIEW to view your Image and drag the marquee around the area you wish to scan.
• Click on SCAN with the mouse and your image should be imported directly into PhotoShop.
