File Formats

Choose a File Format

Save your document in the format and size that fits your needs. The default scan is set at 300 ppi (pixels per inch). The file you scan in at this size is most likely to large to send as an e-mail attachment or to be posted on the web. If you are not sure how you will use the image (PowerPoint, Web, or print), or if you will use it for multiple purposes, begin with a high quality scan and then resize copies in Photoshop for each particular use.

Resizing your document in PhotoShop
• Go to IMAGE>IMAGE SIZE and the IMAGE SIZE window will open.
• In the window make sure the CONSTRAINED PROPORTIONS box is checked
• Then adjust the RESOLUTION and WIDTH/HEIGHT (when using Constrained Proportions, changing one (i.e. width or height) will change the other) to create the desired image size.

File Types
PSD Photoshop specific. Images can be adjusted. This extension does not compress files.
